    Institute for Alternative Futures (AIF)

The Institute for Alternative Futures (IAF) is looking for interns for its ongoing internship program. IAF is a leading futures organization. Founded in 1977, IAF is a small not-for-profit think tank dedicated to using "futures tools" to help communities and organizations more wisely choose and create the futures they prefer. We work in a wide range of areas, including environment and energy, democracy, and government foresight. Health and health care is the area in which we have the deepest global experience. We have worked with a wide range of Federal Agencies (including DHHS, DoD, DoJ, EPA, VA, DoT). In the states, we have worked with governor's offices, legislatures, and the courts. In the voluntary sector, many of the largest organizations have used our futures services, including AARP and the American Cancer Society.

IAF and AFA are and will remain small in size. We use our Intern Program to accomplish our mission. We are looking for graduate students or advanced undergraduates who can be available for three to twelve months. Writing or journalism background or graphic design experience welcomed. We provide a stipend of $1,500 a month for graduate students. We are also open to part-time undergraduate internships on a volunteer or for-credit basis. We have found that certain individuals thrive in our internships. These individuals combine effective work habits, the ability to learn quickly, and a commitment to make the world better.

Typically, our interns both join in on the projects we are working on at the moment, as well as working on focused assignments on their own. Interns will be trained in futures techniques and do meaningful work. Many of IAF's interns get exposure to the Washington policy process.
