GRA/GTA Opportunities


The School of Management seeks graduate students for the 2004 – 05 academic year for research and teaching assistance. Appointments may be for up to twenty hours per week. Partial tuition waivers will be provided scaled to hours of appointment.
 
GRAs will engage in research support activities under faculty supervision for not more than 20 hours per week. In general, students can expect to assist with a subset of the following activities:
•          literature review, summary, and/or synthesis
•          design of research projects
•          creation of surveys, measurement devices, websites, interview protocols, or other devices used to conduct research
•          data collection (e.g., survey administration, conducting interviews)
•          preparation of data/data analysis (e.g., enter data into spreadsheet, transcribe interview responses, data coding efforts)
•          writing research papers for presentation at conferences and publication in journals, trade magazines or books
 
Requirements:
Ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:
•          Knowledge of business (e.g., major or minor in business or business-related field, business classes)
•          Experience in literature reviews, especially academic journals
•          The ability to create annotated bibliographies on given research topics
•          Training in one or more research methodologies applicable to business fields (e.g., statistical methodologies, marketing research methods, survey methods, simulation, optimization, qualitative methods)
•          Prior experience with data collection and/or training in statistics  
•          Econometrics training (for accounting and finance related research)
•          Data analysis skills, including the use of software such as SPSS and SAS
•          Experience writing research papers
 
GTAs will be responsible for supporting faculty in their teaching responsibilities including:
conducting tutorial sessions and labs
administering and proctoring quizzes and tests
grading quizzes, tests, and homework assignments
assisting with office hours
responding to student inquires, usually e-mails
 
Requirements:
Academic preparation in the discipline area
Experience in working with people
Experience in making presentations to groups
Knowledge of the use of technology in the discipline area.
