VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING DEPARTMENT Intern


Location: American Red Cross National Headquarters
2025 E Street, NW Washington DC 20006

Position Title: Development Communication and Marketing Volunteer Intern

Purpose: We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and dedicated junior or senior interested in a career in Public Relations. The student should be a communications major or a major in another related field. The candidate should have strong writing skills and be able to work well within a team. Prior experience in journalism or PR is a plus. This internship will support the Development Communications group, which supports the communications needs of the Red Cross fundraising department. The intern would assist with internal and external communications and complete one independent project during the semester. The participating student can earn three (3) hours worth of credit towards graduation, plus gain valuable work experience and references that only the American Red Cross can offer. Key Responsibilities

•Writing and editing various internal and external communication materials
•Managing media clips and creating clip books for our corporate partners
•Creating communication toolkits for our chapters
•Gather and write stories about people the Red Cross has helped in our different lines of service such as Blood Services, Armed Forces Emergency Services and Disaster Services.
•Updating the content on our internal and external websites
•Other duties as assigned.

Relationships
Work with Red Cross Communication and Marketing department staff, staff from Red Cross chapters throughout the U.S.A., professionals in the art and entertainment world.

Qualifications

• Degree-seeking student, preferably in a Communication or Marketing discipline.
• Willingness to support Red Cross Mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
• Organized, detail-oriented, excellent written and verbal skills, able to work effectively in a team environment.

Training: Orientation to American Red Cross

Length of Appointment Spring Semester: exact dates be determined by intern and ARC

Time Commitment Flexible: Approx 10 hours per week
