Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator

Job Description

Purpose: To provide leadership and direction for marketing Fairfax County Cooperative Extension, to increase awareness of Fairfax Extension programs, and to increase participation in programs.

Duties:

  • Gather information from Extension staff and Extension Leadership Council (ELC) members concerning various programs available, to become knowledgeable about the organization.
  • Serve as advisor of an Extension Marketing Committee, to include members from ELC and other Extension volunteers who represent Extension program areas of horticulture, 4-H Youth, Children, Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) and nutrition.
  • Make personal contacts with various media representatives, including news print, radio, TV and others. Write and distribute PSAs to media.
  • Contact area civic organizations and associations, and Chamber of Commerce to organize and schedule Fairfax Extension promotional presentations.
  • Update information brochures, and develop other materials, and register with the Fairfax Volunteer Center.
    Organize a system and volunteers to conduct promotional presentations at schools and other county facilities (e.g. libraries, community centers).
  • Attend bi-monthly ELC meetings and report on progress.
  • Develop other marketing strategies to inform public about urban Extension program opportunities and that Extension is more than just agriculture.

Requirements:

  • Work 5-10 hours/week for one semester
  • Provide own transportation
